Many believers repeatedly chase after the best teachers and preachers,
exotic doctrines, anointed worship experiences and exciting gatherings, but
remain in the same shallow condition. The reason is simple, spiritual nutrition
will not change what only repentance can transform. It is fall, but our grass is
still summer green. However, there are stubborn patches where grass will not
grow. These crusty areas must be removed before new growth will appear. Nutrition
will not help; only removal and replacement will make a difference. Lord, help
me to establish the right sequence. Where dried patches lie in my soul, grant
me grace to truly repent and sow into my life that which You desire.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
