“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV). As with muscles, my spiritual giftings and God-given abilities grow stronger as I use them. So, my best strategy is to get with it and put them to the test. I can ignore today’s opportunities, or I can step into the challenges and man-up to what God has placed before me. I could just drift along in meaningless survival or I can grow stronger this new day and make a genuine difference, becoming even more effective for tomorrow. I choose the latter. Father help me move further in, deeper down, higher up and farther out. Awaken my soul to Your will, Your ways and Your means. Grant me eyes to see, ears to hear and an ever-increasing fortitude of commitment.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
