“O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch,” Psalm 5:3 ESV. The miracle of light was the Creator’s first gift to creation, and it is still one of His most wonderful gifts. Each new daybreak brings all that is obscured by the darkness of night back into full view. It is so natural, so repetitive, and so normal that we lose sight of the miraculous blessing it is. Dark to light is God’s daily dispensation of life and benevolence. As it is with the earth, so it is with my soul. It is by the very same hand that lights the world that my darkest moments are transformed to resplendent beauty, my mourning to laughter, and my sorrows to gladness. Lord of Light, drive all darkness from my soul. Give light and divine insight to my spiritual eyes and keep my lamp burning. May others see Your radiance in me today.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
