Somehow,
my tongue knows how to keep away from my teeth, but occasionally they painfully
meet. Actually, my tongue does much better staying away from being chomped than
it does avoiding the wrong words. I don’t like it when I bite my tongue, but in
retrospect, I should do it more often. The tongue is biblically identified as
being like a rudder, a wildfire, a horse’s bit and a source of life and death.
Salvation of the soul must be accompanied by a taming of the tongue. Gracious
God and Father, may the words of my mouth be governed by Your wondrous work of grace
in my heart.
