“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” Luke 1:45 ESV. This simple statement from Elizabeth to Mary is loaded with truth! Blessing comes to anyone who believes the promises God speaks. In this case, Mary heard what He had spoken, she believed His promise in her heart and later, she saw it fulfilled. We can do the same. I can read the same promises in God’s words over and over and have them impact me differently each time. Sometimes a verse is a principle to be practiced, later that same passage can become a specific instruction, and again later it can transform into a unique prophetic word for myself or others. We must hear the Word, speak the Word, live the Word, obey the Word, confess the Word and share the Word with others to fully extract its many riches. LORD, open Your Word to me afresh this day.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
