“The Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say,” Luke 12:12 ESV. I have faced so many moments when I was asked what I thought about something, and I felt the grave responsibility to say exactly the right thing. Needless to say, no one bats a thousand in this, but I’ve experienced countless times when I could clearly hear God’s wisdom and counsel flow forth from my lips. Most often, the “wisdom” was an application of a passage of Scripture to a situation or a moment of discernment of the Holy Spirit flowing to me and through me. How glorious and precious are those divine occasions! LORD, as this new day unfolds, awaken my heart to You and prepare me to be an instrument of Your wisdom, comfort, and love.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
