Divine
purpose, unique opportunities, spiritual enablements and natural abilities are just
some of the gifts God sprinkles along the path for each of us. However, unless
practiced in genuine love for God and the people He loves, the exercise of
these heavenly endowments can degrade into prideful showmanship, judgmental
arrogance or disorderly conduct. I slip into an attitude of self-importance far
too easily, so I must carefully practice these divine endowments with the
humbleness they require. Dearest Lord, forgive my misuse of bestowed giftings.
Deliver me from the need to claim ownership of the right to exercise them and
help me practice them with kindness and humility.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
