A GOLDEN KEY

Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.” Psalm 119:116. King David’s prayer reveals one of the golden keys to a happy life: Hope and sustainable joy are both promises God makes to His own. Modern-day marketing has transformed buying things we need or want into a necessary part of developing “healthy self-esteem”, but it doesn’t work. Filling our lives with more stuff makes us feel better for a while, but then we are forced to clean out drawers, closets, attics, garages and storage units just to make additional room for new things, which, in turn, fail to sustain happiness. King Solomon could acquire anything he wanted, and in fact, he did. He later stated: “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul”. Lord God, help me keep my head by giving You my whole heart. Make the wisdom of Your Word my daily bread and deliver me from the seductions of self-importance.
