“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it,” Proverbs 24:3 NIV. The daily condition of my heart is critical, and it must be carefully managed. I’ve surrendered my heart to God hundreds and hundreds of times, and He has filled it over and over, so what is the problem? The problem is my heart leaks. It fills, then it leaks again. So, it is a daily battle. I must continually replenish my heart with truth and make it a tabernacle of praise. According to God’s Word, my heart must be searched, cleansed, inclined to hear, willing, contrite, broken, circumcised, turned from stone to flesh, thankful, freed from deceit, and must chase after God. As always, it sounds like my heart will have quite a workout today. Lord, cleanse my heart and fill it with those things that please You. Use me today to lift the hearts of others.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
