DISCRETION

“Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.” Proverbs 11:22 ESV. Discretion is a precious gift from God. If I ignore its protections, I will surely suffer the consequences. Even though I have the freedom to can say or do something doesn’t mean that I should. The lack of discretion in modern American culture harms us all and is responsible for so much unnecessary pain, suffering, and death. Time spent with thoughtful, discreet people increases my tendency to make responsible decisions and guards me against inappropriate recklessness. Good judgment does not lock us away from the world around us, it empowers us to walk boldly and safely in every circumstance. Giver of All Wisdom, grant me foresight and good sense today. Guard my mouth and actions by Your Spirit and Word. Help me be a faithful witness to others.
