“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps,” Proverbs 16:0 ESV. As a child growing up near the ocean one of my delights was to walk in other people’s footsteps imprinted in the sand. I learned that every person’s stride and pace is unique. But at some point in life, we must give up the childhood game of attempting to walk in someone else’s footprints. It does me no good to compare my steps with those of others. Instead, I must obediently fulfill my God-appointed destiny and trust that His path for me is the very best one. In the final analysis, each stride taken in pursuit of His will is a step forward. Isaiah 31:21 states: “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.” Dearest Father, may each footstep I take this day lead me deeper into Your will and take me to Your highest and best.
“This is the day that the LORD has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!” Psalm 118:24 ESV. The table is set for a brand-new day. Only God knows exactly what is already prepared for my arrival in it. I must now leave behind days gone by and ready myself for new insight, a higher life, and greater things. Am I up for what today will bring? Only the day will tell, but the One who provides it will also carry me through it. One thing is sure; I will walk upon on sacred footprints since the Alpha and Omega has already trod this moment in advance, sprinkling blessings and divine opportunities throughout. I must pay attention so I don’t miss a thing He has placed along the path. Lord God, Lover of My Soul, today is the day You have made; I am so good with that and already rejoicing in what is to unfold. Lift me in Your arms and carry me through with faith, joy, and purpose.
