“For you bless the righteous, O Lord; You cover him with favor as with a shield,” Psalm 5:12 ESV. As is true for everyone, I’ve been hit with more than a few unexpected blows in life. The loss of family members and dear friends, health issues, financial hurdles, daily fears, and the list goes on. We’ve all seen or faced these calamities and many more like them. But what we don’t know is how many times God has shielded us from hard blows that were headed our way. We are each delivered countless times, and we are wholly unaware of it. Psalm 34:7 proclaims: “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” I cannot expect to live this life without troubles, but I can rejoice in the knowledge that I am favored and watched over as a child of God. LORD, You are glorious in wisdom, majestic in power, and to be forever praised for Your Goodness and Care.
A serious pursuit of godliness requires an equally serious renunciation of worldliness. Too often, we measure spirituality with false scales. While being wisely selective with our public vices we are less so with our private attitudes and perspectives. In reality, it is the thoughts and intents of the heart where the greatest battles must be waged; our actions will ultimately align with the condition of our hearts. Lord God, You know me inside out, You are not fooled by human facades. Plow my heart with Your Word and Spirit and leave nothing unturned. Refresh my inward man that I may outwardly glorify You in all places at all times.
